About Us

History

During the summer and fall of 2001 the North Shore Community Development Association (NSCDA), funded by Human Resources Development Canada, conducted a feasibility study with regards to employment, education and income in our region. The conclusive result of this study was that a centre was needed with a focus of improving the life and employability skills of residents of the North Shore.

Using this information, in February 2002, a wide range of individuals and organizations, including the North Shore and Area Community Health Board, RCMP, NSCDA, Open for Business, and the Nova Scotia Community College came together and formed the North Shore Project Service Management Society (NSPSMS). By-laws and Society objectives were completed and the NSPSMS was officially formed on March 7, 2002.

The North Shore Project Service Management Society is a non-profit organization run by a group of volunteers who make up the Board of Directors. The Society secures funding from Service Canada to hire three staff and operate Open Doors Career Resource Centre.

Mission Statement

The North Shore Project Services Management Society will govern the activities of Open Doors Career Resource Centre to ensure that it is operated in a manner that is hospitable, accountable and responsible to clients' needs in the communities it serves. It will operate cooperatively with individuals, community organizations, government and others to ensure effective delivery of services to the rural area.
